The collaborative efforts of RMNCAH Network and Stage Media Arts in implementing the PHCPI project in Bungoma County have yielded remarkable results. Through rigorous data gathering and analysis, evidence has been effectively utilized in decision-making processes, influencing county plans, and updating the Vital Signs Performance (VSP) tool. Maternal and newborn health evidence briefs have been developed, validated, and disseminated to various stakeholders, shaping departmental decisions.
A strategic smart action plan, derived from updated VSP findings, was co-developed and successfully implemented with engaged stakeholders. Capacity-building sessions for 30 journalists on PHC and VSP reporting have empowered them to amplify stories on primary healthcare, independently holding decision makers accountable for their commitments.
Furthermore, 40 community health volunteers were trained as primary healthcare champions across three sub-counties, leading to the identification and presentation of key priority issues to political leaders, driving local-level action. This advocacy and training have ignited impactful forums addressing critical concerns such as teenage pregnancy, low antenatal care uptake, and the fortification of referral systems, advocating for increased investment in primary healthcare. These collective endeavours stand as a testament to the power of collaborative action in effecting positive change in maternal and child health outcomes in Bungoma County.
